Description

Seawater temperature data from the top 5 CTDs on Global Station Papa Flanking Mooring B show the progression of the deepening of the mixed layer throughout the fall/winter. Deployment 2 is omitted because recovered data from GP03FLMB-RIM01-02-CTDMOG060 are not available. Deployment 4 is omitted because GP03FLMB-RIM01-02-CTDMOG062 was supposed to be deployed at 60m but slid down the mooring line to 100m at deployment. (need to add labels for depths and look at surface mooring data - SST, wind speeds, etc).

The chlorophyll-a data from the fluorometer on the same mooring shows a gradual decrease in chl-a as the mixed layer depth increases. A deep mixed layer = phytoplankton cells get mixed too deep, can't photosynthesize effectively, reduce growth rates and biomass decreases.
