According to Roesler and Barnard (Optical proxy for phytoplankton biomass in the absence of photophysiology: Rethinking the absorption line height, Methods in Oceanography, 2013), “absorption meters are highly prone to biofouling, particularly biofilms which not only attenuate the collimated beam but also impact the scattering properties of the optical surfaces and tubes. In productive coastal waters biofouling can have significant impacts (i.e. 10% of the signal) within one to two weeks”. By Lori Garzio, on 11/21/19 |

Note: Approximately 33% of the records in raw data are shorter than the expected a few weeks into a given deployment. This causes the parser to drop the data. While most OPTAA sensors deployed are still outputting data between 2-6 months into their deployments, they tend to drop so far below their expected operating current draw that it is suspected the pumps are not running and the lamps are out. The most complete OPTAA data records should be within the first couple of weeks of deployment. Redmine 10016 Id: 1291 By: knuth |

Note: On Sunday, January 29th, the Shallow Profiler at Slope Base (SC01A) stopped during the profiler down cast - approximately 80m of cable out (120m below the surface). Initial analysis of the engineering data indicates the profiler encountered a high electrical current event, and level wind/winch speed mismatch (similar to SC03A). The power to the port was turned off on 1/29 pending additional analysis. Additional analysis of the engineering, science and environmental data is in process. The Science Pod is not currently powered and science/engineering data is not being collected. Id: 1287 By: knuth |
