Description

There was a strong storm that passed over the Pioneer array on 3/2/2018. During the storm, the surface buoy of the Upstream Inshore Profiler Mooring (CP02PMUI) detached from the rest of the mooring (see annotation ID 1365). The ADCP data from that mooring shows a strong westward current throughout the water column that is also captured by the surface (RID26 at 7m) and bottom (MFD at 90m) velocity meters (VELPTs), and the ADCP on the Inshore Surface Mooring, as well as the ADCPs on the Upstream Offshore (CP02PMUO) and Offshore (CP04OSPM) Profiler Moorings. The pressure record on the CP04OSPM ADCP (units are daPa) indicates that the mooring was pulled down by ~2-3 dbar by the strong currents. Barometric pressure from the METBK on the surface mooring dropped on 3/2, and Surface Current Speed (met_current_speed) calculated on the METBK (from the currents measured by the VELPT) increased substantially.
